This is not 2010. There is no sign of a Republican wave in 2014. Jason Ritchie and his team are working hard and running an aggressive campaign against five-term incumbent GOPer Dave Reichert. They are determined to win and we can all be a part of turning this district blue.
Right now there are three actions we can take that will have a big impact: 1) If you live in WA-08 and are registered: VOTE in the primary. 2) Donate: Reichert has outraised Jason 7 to 1. The GOP thinks WA-08 is a lock, but Jason is running a smart campaign and donations will counter the well-funded GOP efforts to hold this district. 3) Volunteer: Research shows that reluctant voters can be mobilized to vote by personal contact AND they are more likely to become repeat voters.
WA-08 is R+1, won by President Obama in 2008 and 2012. Last October during the GOP shutdown a PPP poll showed the incumbent GOPer Dave Reichert with underwater approvals of 32-47. This district is ready to turn blue and we have a great progressive Democrat to back. Together we can do this! More info below the fold.
Did you know there is no sign of a Republican wave? Via Nate Cohn on July 28th:
...Last week...there were three national polls, by Fox News, CNN and Pew Research, asking the generic ballot question. None showed an anti-Democrat wave, like the one that brought Republicans back to power in 2010. In fact, none of the three polls showed Republicans with a lead among registered voters at all.
The surveys are highly consistent with other surveys conducted over the last two months, which show Democrats ahead by an average of 1.9 points among registered voters. The Republicans have not led in a generic ballot poll since early June, when Fox News showed Republicans ahead by four points.
Who is Jason and why is he running:
When Congress shut down the government in 2013, my business suffered. When I learned that the shutdown, which accomplished absolutely nothing, cost taxpayers like you and me $24 billion, I got angry. When I discovered that my own representative, Dave Reichert (WA-8) voted for this useless government shutdown, I got busy.
The shutdown shows how out of touch Dave Reichert is, but it goes beyond that. He favors warrantless wiretapping on American citizens. He opposes women's right to make their own health decisions, he is unwilling to support comprehensive immigration reform and he ignores important issues like campaign finance reform and net neutrality. My opponent hasn’t held a town hall meeting since 2005 and hasn’t been able to pass a bill he sponsored except one that renamed a post office. He’s so ineffective, he’s been nominated for Bill Maher’s Flip A District campaign.
I am not a politician. I’m a small business owner, husband and dad. I believe that American citizens have a right to privacy. I believe that women have a right to make their own healthcare decisions. I believe that we need comprehensive immigration and campaign finance reform. I believe in action, not in talk.
Bill Maher's Flip A District
