Plato at the Googleplex by Rebecca Goldstein. Plato comes back to life. He's written some books and he's doing things. Stop 1 is the Googleplex, home of Google. Goldstein interweaves stories of Plato at various places with writing about why
philosophy matters. Wonderful. Full review:
The Pursuit of Italy by David Gilmour. A very good one volume history of Italy, from ancient times up to the present.full review
Now reading
John Quincy Adams: American Visonary by Fred Kaplan. An admiring look at a somewhat neglected president. Well written but could have been cut somewhat from it's 700 pages.
Just started
Personal by Lee Child. The latest Jack Reacher novel and it's a good one. Someone has shot at the prime minister of France and nearly hit him. From 1400 yards away. Interest centers on a few people, one of whom has been in jail for 15 years after being caught by Reacher.
The Recursive Universe by William Poundstone. About recursion; quite a bit about the Game of Life that was invented by Conway.
