For months before the election, I cried to anyone who would listen that the nation had an important choice to make. Fear and ignorance or reason and science. It was easy because the choice should have been obvious. When the choice is dangerous ignoramuses or sane folks who respect government, what's the problem, right? Of course reason and science will defeat bronze age mythology? Wrong. Not in this America.
Low and behold, look what happened. We are now debating vaccinations. What's next, global warming is a hoax, too? Oh, wait. It's time to admit we are a stupid nation.
The cake is baked. I've seen enough since Bill Clinton To know that the religious right in this country are evil and will not stop until their work be done. And we willingly enable their cults of death. We must respect their beliefs. What a sham. Particularly those in our midst.
Demons, spirits, ghosts, promises of heaven and hell. Ignorant text. Ignorant priests. Ignorant followers. Continue to respect at your own peril. You enable the cults. You did this.
Vote with your feet. Find your bliss. The future was yesterday. We're past the event horizon. Once President Obama is gone, who keeps the lid on the crazies? What do the democrats have left? Prayer?
I'm well rested and ready to fight the good fight. Follow the evidence.
Americans have an unhealthy desire to see average people promoted to positions of great authority. No one wants an average neurosurgeon or even an average carpenter, but when it comes time to vest a man or woman with more power and responsibility than any person has held in human history, Americans say they want a regular guy, someone just like themselves. President Bush kept his edge on the "Who would you like to have a beer with?" poll question in 2004, and won reelection.
This is one of the many points at which narcissism becomes indistinguishable from masochism. Let me put it plainly: If you want someone just like you to be president of the United States, or even vice president, you deserve whatever dysfunctional society you get. You deserve to be poor, to see the environment despoiled, to watch your children receive a fourth-rate education and to suffer as this country wages -- and loses -- both necessary and unnecessary wars.
