Well, the verdict is in. The DNC officially recognizes the need for aggressive state and local organizing and action. Of course, for those who have been paying attention, this is not a shock. But it's good to have some official recognition of the problem. But there still aren't many people talking about actual solutions.
I wish it hadn't taken
so long to figure out. I wish we hadn't had to withstand the ass whooping we took in 2014. (And 2010, because we were focusing on State and Local here at Dkos was back when we started the
State and Local Action Group at the beginning of DK4). I wish we weren't so focused on the
1 Percent in politics. I wish we had a comprehensive plan to:
- minimize the influence of money in politics
- give smaller, lower profile Democratic candidates access to expensive high-level services and training
- build a progressive electorate from the bottom up
- strengthen our bench for the future
- fight in every district, without regard for “winnability”
Oh wait. We do. And it started, officially, here on Daily Kos in 2013. And we're taking it to the next level, NOW.
I hope you'll forgive me for plugging what I'm doing. I know I'm not around as often as I used to be. But it's for a good reason. It's because, with your support, I been actively working on creating just the thing that the DNC now says is desperately needed. We're heading into 2016 already and I want to appeal to you for your support. It's critical.
The time for talk is over. The time for subtlety is over. I am asking for your help, because we HAVE a plan, already in motion, to do this and we cannot do it without grassroots support. It's as simple as that.
In short, Bold Blue Media subsidizes the cost of direct candidate services for smaller, lower-profile state and local Democratic candidates by accepting subscriptions to our monthly digital magazine. It's just that simple. It's how we cover much of the costs of the expensive high-level services that these candidates could never otherwise afford. It allows us to charge service fees that are affordable to school board candidates, city and county commission candidates, mayoral candidates, sheriff candidates, and state legislative candidates. They will never raise $40 million dollars. And many of them, because they are in "unwinnable districts", will never attract the support of the money and support sources. We have a plan to fix all that.
We're preparing now for 2016, by creating a scalable platform to serve thousands of candidates across the country. You can see the kind of services we'll be providing here.
But we cannot do it without your help. We aren't funded by the party. I don't have the ear of the Party Pooh-bahs. I don't have heavy donors like Jon Stryker, George Soros, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Fred Eychaner, or James Simons on speed dial (despite my best efforts). We are relying on the grassroots. And we are in a race against time right now. (<---I hate when I get emails that say that. But in this case, it really is true).
Please consider a subscription for as little at $5/month and tell your friends, colleagues and fellow activists. (Use the discount code LETSWIN2016 for 50% off a monthly subscription). If can afford more, please consider it. I do a good job of keeping subscribers updated about our progress.
So, it's up to us. Change will not come from the top. It has always started at the bottom. This is no exception.
(And Ben & Jerry, if you're reading this, I really like your ice cream, but I'd rather get some support).
P.S. I'm looking for an admin (or three) for the State and Local Action group here on Dkos. Time to fire that bad boy up again. If interested, please message me.
