The Saturday Morning Home Repair Blog (SMHRB) is where we gather to discuss the many and varied aspects of home repair. Some here are trained professionals. Some, talented DIYers. All are welcome. Please feel encouraged to ask questions, share successes, lament sags, drips and cracks and, as always, share any advice that you have for the rest of us.
Good Morning !
The last post on Drakestone was Dec. 27th.
On dec 29th the floors were up for painting.
so it took 4 days. the old section had lots of places where things were dropped & chips were in the floor. I was surprised with how that part turned out. by no means was it perfect but the chipped part looked decent when it was done.
they had 2 big sanders & vacuums to get that done.
the white spots are the patches .
then that surface was sanded
then the color was put down
& another coat of I don't remember was put down on New Years day.
that cost about 18k ! I would never do that to a place I owned! The finished had an orange peal look. It gets dirty looking easy & chipped or scratches. The workmanship was terrible. at the 3 walk in in doors that had a step to them they let the paint drip over the edge, It looks horrible for 18K !
So I moved on to finishing the AC duck area! My Younger Brother help a ton again !
so I took the screws out of a trim piece & slide the panels up between that trim & the wall. perfect flashing.
the little roof complete
then we did an end & built this make shift scaffold.
Brother Bob didn't like getting out there! I told him I didn't either I just wanted this DONE !
as usual I had put things in place like electric that needed finished up as I went.
And it was a very nice addition to the lighting outside!
before!
all trimmed out !
next part we worked on was the sink in the back room.
first sheet of stainless up.
air & hose bib on each side, this is the left & yes Hot & Cold short hoses will be there to hose off whatever !
brother Bob handled the plumbing while I did the base boards
I used 1x4 pine for the base boards, I used a 1/2 round in the router to get the old fashion base board look
painted them first
spent way to much time with this
puttied up the screw holes
the shock room got the cabinets & water fountain
Brother Bob spraying adhesive on the wall
the set up plate got installed
leveled
the exhaust for the gas heaters in the old building got put back up
Electric to the AC got finalized
AC drain got some attention, I later came back & fixed my mistake in this picture. who can say what I did wrong?
Bob finished the airlines
sand blaster hookup
the attic needed a ladder & door
Eric who works for David's cup team came over & helped me build the ladder
Bob helped me get the door going.
I got all 16 speaker shelves up
random pictures
David's daughter Julia
motorhome stall
the sheet metal rack is back there painted & waiting to be installed !
if you look closely you can see the gutter I put at the bottom of the wall between the wall & the ac unit.
I got all the final inspections for the building done.
I worked my ass off to finish all the loose ends.
I guess it was during the summer I started thinking about finding another job.
It was to hard to work for David any longer, But I wanted that building done before I quit. I worked 16 plus hour days the last few weeks.
On January 25th I turned in my keys & Credit Cards.
The building was 99% done. There was a few things I couldn't do.
But I was done mentally & my new job was waiting.
I Started working at Pro Fabrication 1-26-15.
So far things are going good ! I work less & get paid more. plus in 6 weeks I'll have company provided insurance !
I didn't say anything to people that would tell David I was going to quit, I knew I would get a 1000 questions of how to do this & that & it would cause trouble time wise. David has used the term I left him hanging.
I wonder how many people would like to have been left hanging with that shop?
I'll do one more post on the project !
I want to show how much effort went into the steel rack.
Steve who owns ProFab doesn't want pictures of his shop on the internet. So I won't be able to do Saturday post after I do the steel rack one. I'll be working Saturday's anyway.
Thanks for all the compliments I got on the post of this project ! !
I did enjoy building the shop most of the time.
But another of the reason I decided to quit is David doesn't own very many tools to build things with. I had to work twice as hard to get the building done ! I was tired of borrowing my friends equipment to do it the easy way.
My truck out front 1-25-15 loaded with the last of my stuff !
this is how the new section looked 1-25-15
I was painting the last section of the base board at 4:00am 1-25-15.
I didn't take a picture :(
this wall is where the steel rack & steel metal rack are.
you can see a few of the holes that will hold the brackets & rack to the wall.
there is a ton of work in this part of that room.
that small opening is there to slide the sheet metal out.
I have decided to stay home one more day!
diverticulitis SUCKS !
but I'll be ok after today
