Because just when things are starting to be stable, it's time for a kick in the balls.
More below the dooblydoo.
So we were having a lovely Pesach and PHLP went up to the well lit, recorded parking lot to discover our car was gone. She was headed to school. We called the PoPo, insurance, viewed the security videos (and had the one spot blocked from 3 cameras because that's my luck) - and we are not covered for theft because who the fuck steals a 2000 Buick sedan with paint peeling from the trunk????
I know - my fault on the lack of coverage. But I honestly didn't think anyone would steal my car because it's a piece of crap - and I couldn't afford more coverage than I had.
But we need that car. It's our only source of transport across the bridge to the grocery store with better prices and kosher food, where our storage locker is and the Dollar Tree - an important part of any poor persons shopping runs. No local bus runs up to the community college campus, where she is a full time student and I am a part time student - and 2 days a week she has to go to the MERTS campus, which is 30 minutes away by car with no bus access.
We also committed to a kosher kitchen this Pesach and the only source for kosher meat is in Portland, 2.5 hours away. There is an occasional bus, but the kosher grocery is in SW Portland, not downtown - so it's a rush to get there and back to catch the only bus home.
So yeah - we're pretty fucked at the moment. We'd like to get a beater to get us around for the year we have before we shove off - our leaving date is somewhere in spring 2016 , we just have to wait for the weather to cooperate and we're out of here.
For your consideration, the link below is to our GoFundMe campaign for a beater. As you can see, we are only asking for enough to get a reliable used car ($2000), nothing fancy. We've come so far, from the baked potato to a working boat, to be kicked so hard now is a real setback.
