Over the Winter while I was confined indoors by the flu and then the weather I kept thinking of places I'd like to travel to in order to take pictures. I tired myself out thinking of all the travel and it also occurred to me that with my retirement income I needed to learn to see things to photograph closer to home, or I was always going to be a frustrated photographer. :-)
The first thing I did was to sign up for a Miksang Photography class, it is a form of contemplative photography. I'll describe that further in another diary, for now it is enough to know that I hoped the class would teach me to learn to see what I was missing which was right in front of me.
What I've learned is there is plenty to photograph close to home. Things don't need to be conventionally beautiful to be interesting, and to evoke memories or feelings. The last few days Spring finally arrived, so here is what I found worthy of capture recently. Some of the images come from my back yard, but everything is within 5 miles of home.
I was on my way to an evening get together when this made me turn the car around and take photos, it made me a little late...oh well...priorities.
Here are a few from my yard:
Something meditative:
A former Presbyterian church sold and now used for storage, makes a charming sight in the morning.
Out for a ride, I drove past an old rural air field and found this one lonely airplane tied down in a rusty hangar and framed by weeds, I don't think it is going anywhere soon.
Pastoral beauty and decay are two of my favorite photos subjects, there is plenty of that close to home.
I wished I could have gotten closer to the chickens, but it is always a struggle to decide whether to take the time to knock on someone's door, or move on and keep taking photos when the light is changing so quickly.
It seems everywhere I look there are things attracting my attention, so many things to photograph...so little time. Every time I go out, I find images that require return to capture in different light. I don't think I'll ever get bored, thankfully.
Finally the end of the day, it really was time to go home here, because when I went to switch from my sunglasses to regular glasses I discovered I had left them home on the book I was reading. Ooooops!
Thanks for looking. :-)
