Perspective one, Me. My 17 year-old daughter called.
17YO: Dad, I have been to TEN stores looking for a prom dress. I found one I love but it costs six hundred dollars.
Me (who had been warned by 17YO’s mom that this phone call was coming): Can the cashier take credit card information over the phone?
17YO: I’ll ask. (pause) She said “yes”. Here she is.
Cashier: The dress costs 690 so plus tax it will be $725.
Me: After she’s done with it can I melt the dress down for its gold?
Cashier: You can do what you want with it after you pay for it.
Perspective two, my 17YO. I called my dad.
17YO: Dad I have been to TEN stores looking for a prom dress. I found one I love but it costs six hundred dollars.
Dad: Can the cashier take credit card information over the phone?
17YO: I’ll ask. (pause) She said “yes”. I’ll put her on. (To herself: I just KNOW dad is going to come out with some one-liner when he hears the price)
Cashier: The dress costs 690 so plus tax it will be $725. (pause) You can do what you want with it after you pay for it.
17YO: (To herself: He did. He just said some one-liner)
Besides noting that my daughter says $690 is a six hundred dollar dress, she is going to look great for her prom.
