Yo all! I hope everyone had a happy holiday season. 2014 was a glorious year around here: record traffic growth, whether we're talking about our email list, our website, or our reach into social media platforms like Facebook. We're now reaching over 10 million people per month, a level of influenced unrivaled by anything else we've ever done.
2014 was also a shit year, as the November elections showed that we, as a party and movement, still can't get our core base engaged in non-presidential years. And until we fix that problem, we're going to have to deal with that sad-ass rump southern old white people's party.
But now we look ahead toward 2015. I haven't been the most prolific writer the last few years, at least not until election season rolls around. This year I'm making it official: taking a sabbatical from writing for at least the next 3-4 months as I focus on administrative tasks. Daily Kos is now in the mid-30s employees and continues to grow. I'm taking advantage of this small pause between election cycles to work on the future of this site and company, mapping out the direction we're headed for the next several years.
In the past, I've tried to juggle writing and running the company, but I'm exhausted with doing that, and ends up forcing compromises on both sides (writing and administering). So for the first time, I really will focus on just one thing. Doesn't mean I'll never write, but as long as I don't feel like I'm EXPECTED to write, it takes a ton of stress and pressure off my back.
I'll be checking in with frequent Ask Me Anythings, I owe you all traffic updates (I haven't done one since ... October!), I'm hoping to write more about my energy efficiency work (start here if you missed what I did over the holiday season), and like I said, if something really strikes me I'll write about it. But 2015 should prove an eventful year in the history of this site, from our (always getting closer) launch of our new web platform, to things I can't even hint about. Trust me, it'll be a great f'n year.
So with that, ask away! I won't promise to answer everything, but I'll do my best.
