My Facebook timeline is filled with hate. Lots of hate.
And these are friends...and family members. Out of my 84 ‘friends’ listed, I think there are maybe four of us who are trying to reason...trying to calm the mob who wants to ‘kill them all’ and ‘keep them out’.
(Oh..see- now I miss that little orange squiggly thing)
This is what I don’t understand. Where was the outrage after Newtown? Where was the outrage after Aurora? Charleston?
My family and friends, although some had placed the obligatory candle on their profile, didn’t call for the immediate removal of guns the way they are calling for the immediate removal of Syrians. They didn’t post ugly pictures depicting the NRA the way they are posting ugly pictures of Muslims. They didn’t cry out for a ‘war on guns’ the way they are screaming for a war against Islam.
I tried to point that out in one posting. I calmly mentioned that if we are to go after all Muslims, then why not all white men, too? Because Timothy McVeigh blew up the building in Oklahoma. And why not go after the militia groups because of that?
I was cursed at, called a dummy and “unrealistic”. Yeah- this from a family member who I have to sit across the table from next week.
The hatred is unbelievable. Another niece pointed out that the refugees are running for their lives from the same group that committed these horrific acts. Nobody believed her.
She was told they are all sneaking into Europe for no other reason than to kill- and if we let them in our country, they’ll start killing us too.
I didn’t point out that we are already being killed in this country by fanatics who can easily get an AK-47. I didn’t want to cursed at again.
So now I just ‘hide post’ over and over again.
While everybody is debating on how to stop ISIS- a terror organization that does need to be stopped, I would really want to know...how do we stop the hate?
Because it’s starting to scare me...just a bit.
