Greetings Kossacks –
My name is Mike Noland and I am exploring a run for Congress in Illinois’ 8th District. While I explore this campaign I plan on having hundreds of conversations with voters, activists, organized labor, and progressives like you. I understand that congressional campaigns extend well beyond the borders of their district and I hope that after getting to know me you consider supporting my campaign, even if it is not your own district.
Today, I officially announced that I am seriously exploring the idea of running for Congress to replace Tammy Duckworth. I want to run because I believe that I can offer the voters a bold and progressive vision for our nation’s future.
I plan on returning to Daily Kos frequently, to share my story and the progressive ideals that I believe must be restored to help foster the American Dream and renew our people’s faith in Congress.
Today is a busy day for me so I will keep this fairly short. But, before I go, I want to share with you a few things I’ve been fighting for in the State Senate (and will continue to fight for in Congress):
Advocating for Tax Reform – Illinois has one of the lowest income taxes for individuals and corporations in the nation. I’ve long been a proponent of a progressive income tax in Illinois, which, I see this as a morale responsibility to improve our state’s finances and create greater fairness. In Congress I will fight for tax policy that will balance our nation's budget without doing so on the back’s of working families.
· Fighting Against Corruption – I recognize how the uncontrollable flood of special interest money has corrupted too many public officials. That is why in the Illinois Senate I sponsored legislation for the first time in state history to limit campaign contributions and a resolution calling for a constitutional amendment to allow voters to recall the governor. Currently I am calling on Congress to pass an amendment that would overturn the Citizens United decision.
· Opposed Corporate Tax Breaks – I voted against extending tax breaks for major corporations in Illinois because they would take millions of dollars away from our local school districts. We cannot give a free pass to corporations; they need to pay their fair share to support our communities.
I look forward to engaging with you and progressive activists nationwide as I explore a run for Congress. Please sign-up for more information; follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook.
Thank you for being a part of this conversation.
