Bob's iPhone Photography
I realized the other day that I haven't posted a diary of my iPhone photos for quite some time, mid 2013 was the last time. So here are some random images that I've taken since '13. If you'd like to see all of my favorite shots that I've taken with my iPhone you can see them at BobsiPhonePhotography.com
This is a shot I got on my morning walk around school (I'm a teacher). We have lots of ivy growing up the walls around campus.
All of the pictures in this diary were taken with either my iPhone 5s or 6.
The trick to taking close up images with your iPhone is to zoom in about 20%. Any more and the images starts to have too much digital noise, it's just enough to get you closer and still have a good quality shot you can print. I printed this 16" x 20" and it looked great.
My mom has done a great job of staggering flowers to bloom most of the year (we live in the San Diego area so our flower blooming times are longer than most). I took this in November.
Back to campus, in December. The ivy is turning colors before dying off for a few months. I took this in front of the library.
One of my mom's roses.
Living in an arid environment we have quite a few succulents.
For some reason these roses in my mom's garden are the only ones that attract these strange looking green spiders. You don't see them on any of the other roses. The roses are orange and yellow. I got another shot of a green spider on these roses a few years ago, you can see it here.
I love black and white photography. Ansel Adams was my hero.
My daughter. If you have, or have had, a child in Junior High School, you totally understand this shot.
You all know that the natural disaster things we have to deal with here in southern California are earth quakes and fires, oh yeah, mud slides too, but it hasn't rained in ages so that hasn't been a problem. Anyway, last May we had our share of fires in this area. I was taking my daughter to the doctors one afternoon when one of the fires came over the hill right by the doctors office. I managed to get this shot as we were entering the building.
Yes we live by the beach. My son, last June, Boogie Boarding. We may head to the beach tomorrow, (Easter break extends through tomorrow), it'll be the first time this year for us.
The fish tank in my daughters room.
The son of the teacher in the office next to mine. I took this back in July of last year, he was about 4 weeks old at the time.
Yes I live in Craft Beer Heaven. We have
over a 100 breweries now in San Diego County, if you like good beer this is the place to live, (ok, the weather is an added bonus). Back in October Jeff Bagby opened his
new place in Oceanside. The place is awesome. I took this shot during their soft opening.
Paul McCartney in Petco Park, down town San Diego. The man is 73 years old, he played for over 3 hours, never took a break. The concert was awesome.
Disneyland
My mom went to Disneyland the second week after it opened in 1955 and I took my first trip in 1963. Thanks to annual passes my kids have been well over a 100 times I'm sure. Here are a few shots I've gotten the past two years.
We love going up at Christmas time. Disney does Christmas decorations right.
We were walking down Main Street on our way out and I saw this balloon vendor in the middle of the street. I could see that the afternoon light was hitting the balloons just right but my kids were done, they weren't stopping for anything, so as we walked by the vendor I took my iPhone and shot it over my shoulder just as we passed him. The shot turned out pretty good I think.
I was walking through Down Town Disney one afternoon when I saw these high school girls looking in the bakery window. I rushed to get my iPhone out and get the shot, just in time as they all broke up after I got the shot. I followed them into a girls boutique next door to show them the shot and see if they wanted a copy. My son, who is 10, tugged at my shirt, "Dad, can I leave go to another store now?" He wasn't liking the girls store at all. ;)
While at California Adventure one day I walked over to get a video of our friends on the Radiator Springs Racers ride. As they came over the hill though their car broke down. The other car kept going. It was hot that day and I felt bad for them, but decided that it was the perfect opportunity for me to take a multi-image shot that I could stitch together. The shot turned out perfect.
My son had a minimum day just a couple of weeks ago so I took the afternoon off and we headed up to Disneyland for the rest of the day. There was lots of rides and attractions closed because they are being spruced up for the 60th anniversary this summer. I took this shot of my son in the circle in front of the castle. The trees blooming made the shot even though the castle was covered in scaffolding still.
Washing DC
After Christmas I was able to travel back to Washington DC to visit some good friends. It was my first trip to DC, being a Civics teacher and a political junky it was a long over due trip. I had a great time, will probably have to go back during the spring some time.
The White House, as if I needed to tell you that.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Leaving the Lincoln Memorial. A rare day with no-one else in site.
Mount Vernon, mid morning as we walked onto the property.
President Washington had an amazing view from his front porch, (that's our tour guide).
The pier at Mt. Vernon.
There ya go. Again, if you would like to look at all of my favorite iPhone photographs you can do so at BobsiPhonePhotography.com.
Also, I've done a series on how to take better pictures with your iPhone, you can view those diaries here. Note that I did do those diaries a couple of years ago and technology has changed since then. If you have any questions about taking better images with your phone feel free to ask in the comments. I've got a busy day planned but will reply to all questions when I have a chance.
Enjoy.
