No sooner have I hit the 'submit' button to the e-mailed petitions to Stop Fast Track and to Stop TPP, then up pops the Act Blue contributions page.
Act Blue, the Democratic party Fundraising machine, purports that the party represents these and other issues that are the subjects of the petitions in our inboxes.
But does it?
Nancy Pelosi is playing a coy and dangerous game, parading angst instead of leadership.
She was first elected Speaker for two main reasons--her fundraising prowess, and her ability to whip her party in shape for votes (remember ACA?).
She is not minding raising funds from people who want to see TPA/FastTrack defeated. Now it's time for her to deliver the votes.
Democrats in the Senate lost today--the cloture vote passed, paving the way for FastTrack--Thursday, May 21, 2015--because McConnell tied it to Repubs dropping their opposition to the Import-Export Bank. (He doesn't mind playing with fire).
The next vote is any time now, maybe tomorrow, in the House.
Really--does the fate of the majority of Americans, over 2,000 organizations from all walks of life--farming, labor, environment, internet, food standards, small business, civil service, municipal workers, and some American cities! you name it-- who have signed on to fight TPP have to fall on the greasy wheeling and dealing of Congress?
Nancy Pelosi, stop wringing your hands--the way is crystal clear for you--get those Democratic votes lined up and fast. That's why you're Minority Leader.
