I'm not so into Pokemon and such, but I still caught wind of this over various gaming sites. Over the weekend in Boston, the World Pokemon Championship, a game tournament where players can compete for prizes including things as Scholarship money, almost turned into yet another tragedy and occurrence of domestic terrorism.
It seems that two very sick men from Iowa, Kevin Norton and James Stumbo, decided to threaten violence upon attendees of the event over social media.
On a public Facebook page called “Mayhem Pokemon Crew,” Stumbo posted a photo of a white sedan, with two military-style weapons crossed over the trunk.
“Kevin Norton and I are ready for worlds Boston here we come!!!” wrote Stumbo. When a group member posted wishing the two men luck, Norton responded, “With killing the competition?
According to police, the two men were in possession of several firearms and without a license to carry. Their vehicles was seized, and after a search warrant was issued, weapons were found.
Officers recovered a 12-gauge Remington shotgun, a DPMS Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife in the vehicle.
Fortunately these two were stupid with social media. If they didn't brag about wanting to go and hurt other convention attendees, this could have been a very different story. Is it time to discuss firearm control yet in this country? Or is it still "too soon"?
