Donald Trump has made it clear. This headline on Breitbart says it all: “Trump: If Someone Hits Me, I Have to Hit Them Back Harder — ‘That’s What We Want to Lead’” www.breitbart.com/...
There you have it. He is a man who cannot abide grievances, and he considers retribution to be “leadership”. Unfortunately, we have seen how a president with a persecution complex deals with his enemies. Unlike Trump, Richard Nixon had a very good brain. However, his insecurities caused him to use, or try to use, the immense powers at his disposal to attack people who opposed him politically. His obsession led him to order a psychiatrist’s office to be burglarized and he tried to cover up the wiretapping of the Democratic Party. Could we expect any less from someone with as sensitive feelings as Trump has? I cannot imagine entrusting the powers of this office (in addition to the nuclear codes) to this man. Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia dealing with Nixon’s “Enemies List”. Yes, political opponents were enemies to him:
The official purpose, as described by the White House Counsel's Office, was to "screw" Nixon's political enemies, by means of tax audits from the Internal Revenue Service, and by manipulating "grant availability, federal contracts, litigation, prosecution, etc."[5] In a memorandum from John Dean to Lawrence Higby (August 16, 1971), Dean explained the purpose of the list:
“ This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration; stated a bit more bluntly—how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.[5]
