I’m in the middle of Jacksonville, FL. Apparently, i get a front-row seat to a historic hurricane.
Here is what I know:
- Storm surge is potentially devastating across the entire Florida eastern coast
- Extensive flooding is expected in any low-lying areas inland <20 miles
- Evacuations have been issued for virtually the entire east coast for Florida and Georgia
- Florida is in an official federal state of emergency
- Disney World is closed for only the 4th time in its history (yeah, that actually means something here)
There are diaries from the following wonderful Kossacks covering this soon-to-be disaster:

I want everyone to know that we have taken every precaution we can. My wife has polycystic kidney disease and is a dialysis patient. That qualifies her for Medicare, which qualifies her for a shuttle to take us to a shelter if we are in danger. As the designated care provider, I would go with.
She had dialysis this afternoon, and will be fine until Monday. We have all the medications for everyone in the house that are needed.
We are safer where we are now than the shelter. For now.
We have several friends and family with us to provide cooperative support. They, also, have all of the things they need.
We have two fully fueled vehicles ready to go.
Did I mention the 8 cats between the 6 of us? Big household, you don’t just jump on the freeway and go, folks.
We have the freezer stocked, food aplenty, bathtub full, all of that stuff.
