Never again — never, ever again — will Republicans be able to oppose one of our candidates on the basis that he or she doesn’t have enough experience to be POTUS.
I am seeing people write on this site that we don’t have a deep enough bench to put up a strong candidate in 2020 unless we go with one of our two 70+ yr old progressive lions in the Senate.
I call bullshit on that noise.
I just came across this article in HuffPo, entitled “Meet Kamala Harris, Who Could Become The First Woman President.” My immediate, instinctual reaction was, “Yeah, but she’ll only have 2 years in federal office when primary season begins.”
Then I remembered — oh yeah, that’s right: We no longer have to have presidents who even know the respective roles of the 3 branches of government. She’s golden.
So to those of you lamenting our bench, I say that our bench is millions strong. There are millions of competent, thinking progressives out there who have qualifications equal to or better than those of the current President-Elect.
And at least hundreds, maybe thousands, of them actually have enough policy knowledge and enough experience with the mechanics of government that, with the help of a major party apparatus, they could transition into a competent administration by Day One and do a magnificent job in the Oval Office.
Which is more than I can say for the guy who’s currently in that process.
