Fellow Democrats:
Last Tuesday was a disappointing day on many levels. From a Presidential election that many (myself included) had thought was in the bag to the failure of south Georgia voters to recognize an up and coming leader like 'Major Woodall this election frankly sucked.
However, now is not the time to surrender to depression and apathy. Mr. Trump and the Republican cabal in Washington are plotting the most drastic social changes since the New Deal. At minimum, all of the progress our country has made during Barack Obama's Presidency will be destroyed.
Bankers will once again be able to defraud ordinary consumers, and flirt with the same disastrous manipulations that tanked the economy in 2008. Consumer and worker safety will be sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed. Once again, polluters will be free to use America's rivers, lakes, and air as open sewers. The environmentally imperative transition to carbon free energy will be endangered.
More importantly, the legacy of the Civil Rights movement will be under attack. The hard won rights to vote, to marry, and to fair treatment in all areas of society may become a fading memory. We must not let our fellow citizens be bullied and disenfranchised.
Even more importantly, the Social Security system and Medicare, the main source of retirement for people, will be slashed, at best.
We must fight these changes ceaselessly and to the best of our ability. In order to begin organizing for campaign 2018 and beyond, the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Bulloch County will meet on Tuesday November 29. (Time and location will be announced later.) The agenda will include an election postmortem, state mandated by-law changes to be brought to the General membership meeting in December, and organizing elections for the 2017-18 Executive Committee in January.
All Democrats will be welcome at this meeting.
