A lot of posts have been written in the last 2 weeks about Trump's victory. I think the slogan "Make America Great Again" played a large part.
Taking out the politics, it just was a better marketing message than "stronger together" or the wry, "love trumps hate".
Like Obama in 2008 had the "HOPE" poster/shirt, “change”, and incorporated the "yes we can" chant into the identity of his campaign, Trump had a catchy message.
When my wife has to go in to work during the weekend, and comes home and asks me what I did all day, I reply, “I was busy making America great again.”
I think this is important to note, because coming up with a catchy and inspiring slogan is something achievable in upcoming elections. Making America significantly less racist, or less sexist, or more understanding of who really represents their economic interest are all gargantuan tasks. Searching for the next Barack Obama may also be difficult.
But what the DNC and potential candidates can do is come up with slogan. #FeeltheBern was the best slogan from the Democratic side, or maybe “when they go low, we go high.” Democratic leadership should take the time and come up with a slogan to define the party in 2018 and 2020, and keep repeating it over and over so the American voters feel like they understand what the party stands for.
