Tragically Divided Liberal/Progressive/Democratic leadership and followership is the problem today, two days before the Electoral College. Any party worth its salt would have found a plausible strategy by now, and the movement towards it would be fairly well advanced.
This is on US, Democrats. We refuse to present even the image of a united front to fascism. The Democratic Leaders know that if they take a stand, they alienate 2/3 of the people in the Democratic Party. ANY stand. That is US on this site. We just cannot act in the National Interest, because we ourselves are compromised personalities with our fragile egos and personal inadequacies. We think the Republicans are bad. They are, but we are arguably worse on the Emotional Maturity Scale of Dysfunction.
If anyone in Leadership would say, ok, my future in politics is clouded anyway, I have nothing to lose by LEADING, we could have any one of several possibilities, including the most plausible, which is all Democratic Electors throwing their votes to the Second Place Primary finisher, in the hopes that 37 Republicans might feel honestly compelled to Stop Trump, a Democratic victory is still possible.
But instead, here we have the Tragic Greek Chorus. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, they chant. What they mean, of course, is: MY FEELINGS ARE HURT. At any and every possibility. I don’t think Bernie would be a Great President, nor would John Kerry, nor would Mitt Romney, nor would John Kasich. BUT let us stop playing four bank billiards and just stop Trump. If Trump gets through the Electoral College, it will be because we allowed it to happen due to our own egos, privately nursed vendettas, butthurt feefees, emotional dysfunction, Oh So Clever Keyboarding Skills; a lack of followership.
This whole tragic episode shows the weakness and fecklessness of the Democratic Party and the absolute NEED to start over with new leadership and new followership. Let it start now, today. Give up your hurt feelings and clever keyboard ripostes for the good of the country. Otherwise, we deserve, apparently, a brownshirt admnistration which will burn the climate down for its private spaceship to Mars, or their own self-immolation.
I propose that Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama, as the Head of the Party make a statement today, throwing all of her electors to Bernie Sanders or John Kerry or John Kasich or Mitt Romney. Her choice. I don’t care which one, or properly, whom.
That is called Leadership. LEAD, and we must follow. No kvetching about it. Just follow. The nation, and the world is at stake.
