So, the first two states have spoken. Iowa was neck and neck and New Hampshire is a blowout for Senator Sanders. 48 more states, plus DC and the territories, have yet to speak and every voice should be heard and every vote counted.
Yet, if you were to go to the Huffington Post or a number of other 'news' or blog sites you might think Bernie lost New Hampshire tonight — despite winning by upwards of twenty plus points. A number of news agencies have sided with the DWS led Democratic Establishment in preloading Super Delegates into their total delegate counts based upon purported support. Talk about putting your finger on the scales.
We need to call out, and in no way support, any ‘news’ agency or blog that contributes to this dishonest practice.
Most of these Super Delegates stated their support of Hillary long before any voters actually voted. I listened to one of the New Hampshire Super Delegates on NPR this evening spewing some of the worst talking points imaginable. In contrast, as those of who supported the Obama campaign in 2008 remember, a goodly portion of the Super Delegates reversed course and supported the leading candidate in their states, and the ultimate winner and now President. They are politicians after all.
The only way we are going to move the Super Delegates is if we make them. If Bernie is winning we need to make it clear to Super Delegates that it will upend their political careers if they betray the will of Democratic voters.
And this is where President Obama will need to tilt the scales back to the will of the voters. Mr. President, I know you will have our backs. Am I right?
