Oregon lawmakers have given final approval to pioneering legislation that would eliminate coal from the state's energy supply by 2030 and double state mandates on renewable power by 2040.
In a statement, Gov. Kate Brown seemed to indicate she would sign the bill.
She said it "equips Oregon with a bold and progressive path towards the energy resource mix of the future."
The bill passed Wednesday by the Senate would make Oregon the first state to adopt legislation to eliminate coal-fired power.

I probably have the MOST partisan inclinations about this piece of legislation because for me it pays dividends in that a cursory amount of research on coal and it’s lobbying

look at who coal donates almost all of the money it donates to politcs too.
coal is almost a wholly owned subsidiary of the republican party.
Not ONLY That but I BELIEVE Global warming is REAL and is MANMADE so lowering CO2 emission’s matters to me.
I did EVERYTHING I could to contact my legislatures and urge them to vote yes but they were already leaning in my direction on this one anyways.
It’s a good day!
the arguments aganst this bill have stated that it has no explicit guarentee of shutting down even a single coal fired power plant. this is true but only in the most technical sense of being “True.” meaning that in reality the consequences of this bill will more than likely result in more miners and plants being shut down just not directly.
See those are all based on assumptions that coal will simply find someone else to sell it’s Energy to, This unlikely…
Sure, they very well may, but losing an entire state as a customer has to be a pretty major blow to the coal industry,aAnd I somehow doubt with rapidly expanding natural gas, Wind and Solar they’re going to find somewhere else to sell it.
Hell, China just laid off how many coal miners ?

China expects to lay off 1.8 million workers in coal, steel sectors
The coal industry is besieged from all sides and is rapidly running out of even places to export it.
It’s a beautiful day.
