Apparently Susan Sarandon went on Chris Hayes show and stated that she didn’t know whether she could vote for Hillary Clinton. This apparently is enough for people to call her a fool, and to call her an idiot for voting for Ralph Nader. I don’t watch that hack Chris Hayes so I wouldn’t know personally.
Nader famously ran against Al Gore in the Democratic primary, and it’s been pointed out by many that Nader siphoned off enough votes from Gore to cost him the election. I didn’t vote for Nader, and for exactly that reason. I wanted Al Gore to win. At that time, I supported the argument that you should simply vote for the Democrat, no matter what was wrong with them, because the Republican clearly worse.
In the years since then, the Republicans are even worse than they were before. There policies were evil, but there was still a little sanity left in the party. It has since departed.
However, in the time since then, I’ve said exactly the same thing she did. I don’t know whether I can vote for Hillary Clinton or not. So I guess maybe people think I’m priviliged.
Though I’d like to have a job I can’t get one. I live on a social security disability check of $730 a month. If you count food stamps, I make another $150 on some months and less on other. By giving plasma, and doing little side jobs people give me, I make what averages out to less than $100 a month. I scavenged this computer out of parts.
Incidentally, My “rent” is $750 a month. In theory disabled people like me should get subsidized housing, which would at least make my situation livable. Unfortunately the situation has deteriorated in Pueblo so much that I can’t get it. I waited four years on the lists and eventually got bumped off of them. There is so little housing now that its impossible to get on it.
I’m trying to figure out whether or not I’ll be homeless next month. So am I priviliged?
Now this housing situation that I’m in has been developing for a long time. Specifically, it was a problem that was obvious long before Barack Obama became president. It got worse the entire time he was president.
While Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, presided over the monstrous increase of fracking and natural gas exploitation, I was out there struggling to get a little extra money for food, and when I could find something was making what worked out to $4.00 an hour as an independent contractor. (They aren’t required to pay us minimum wage.)
The interesting thing about Hillary Clinton is that most of her supporters that I meet are making a lot more money that I am, while Bernie Sanders supporters are frequently making a lot less.
Now the question that I have to ask you guys who think Sarandon is priviliged is this;
If its ok to support a candidate with watered down positions on helping the middle class, just how many more terms of voting for the lesser evil do think I will survive? How about all the homeless people I see outside everday?
If your one of those neoliberal Democrats, you probably believe that keeping the minimum wage low will help jobs or something, which is bullshit. All the evidence that we have indicates that keeping the minimum wage low is precisely why the economy is bad. Its why the middle class can’t support stores any more. No money spent means a dead economy, and a bunch of rich guys keep investing their cash in businesses in China.
The only chance people I have is that the minimum wage goes up soon, and that the government programs which many Democrats helped kill come back.
The lesser evil is killing me.
