The plight of the homeless in our country is a sad thing. It just shouldn’t happen in the USA, but it does (way too often and too much). The situation is made worse by folks out to get a “good laugh” by being cruel to them. But, then there are also good Samaritans that come along and try to help. Below we have a story about a homeless man in New Jersey.
But first, a word from out sponsor:

Here is the account of an ugly incident that occurred last January involving a homeless man from New Jersey from NBC Philadelphia:
Ronald Leggatt, 65, was homeless and living in a baseball field dugout in Lakewood, New Jersey, last month when he was approached by a young man who paid him $5 to pour coffee over Leggatt's head.
"I was so broke, I needed the money, to be honest with you," Leggatt said. "My friend came by and helped me."
Another person snapped photos of Leggatt moments later and posted them on Facebook with a description of what happened. Leggatt’s story went viral and attracted the attention of people across the country, who helped him with donations used to put him up in a hotel, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help him.
It appears that Mr. Leggatt had on a San Francisco 49ers jacket, his favorite sports team. And, someone took photos of the incident and posted to Facebook.
From SFGate:
A Good Samaritan stepped in to prevent further damage, and photos of the incident went viral on Facebook. In them, Leggatt is wearing a 49ers jacket.
"They're the only team I like," he says.
And, of course, someone else saw Leggatt's story: His beloved 49ers.
The team sent him a care package with a brand-new gold satin 49ers jacket, Super Bowl 50 pins, 49ers stickers, a hat and more.
"The situation that brought Mr. Leggatt's story to our attention was certainly unfortunate and we wanted to make sure he knows we consider him a valuable member of the Faithful," 49ers spokesman Roger Hacker told NBC10. "We hope we were able to bring a smile to his day."
"You surprised me to death," Leggatt says in a video of him unboxing the care package. "I can't believe you knew I was a fan."
And if you need a pick-me-up today, be sure to watch Leggatt exclaim in his excitement: "Thank you, Joe Montana!"
Today is my four year anniversary on Daily Kos. I joined to communicate with like-minded folks here, but like many of you, I found much more here — a warm and friendly community. I didn’t really expect to write diaries when I first signed up, but now I’ve written over five hundred. Two hundred fifteen of those made the recommended list, and I’m at over 24,700 rec’s. Thank you to everyone for supporting and reading my diaries through these four years.

This comment by Zacapoet spawned a thread wherein accounts of Ralph Nader’s character and effectiveness as a consumer advocate were posted. It’s not pretty. from kos’ front page post on Nader’s latest acts undermining the progressive cause.
