We are still euphoric and feeling the success. Thanks to all the worldwide organizers and attendees! What a great coming together of warmth and patriotism. But, what now?
In the days to come it will be important to carry these feelings forward. What will you do, whether it be big or small, public or personal? We each need to change our lives, even a tiniest bit. Run for office? Attend a town hall meeting and speak up? Boycott? Join? Donate? If you do even one small thing, you add ‘em up and you can have a national movement.
I am already a member of the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan group who will be upping their game nationwide to fight for voting rights. And I donate to environmental causes. But I vow to up my game.
I recently received in the mail a subscription offer from National Geographic. Instead of just tearing it up and throwing it away, I am sending it back. With a note attached. “Sorry, but no! You made a big mistake firing a lot of your photographic services. I refuse to support anything Rupert Murdoch has a hand in.”
Will he see it? No. But I made my point and vow to stand up and let them know why I am boycotting.
I also promise to up my game and contribute to Planned Parenthood. I used them in my 20’s, but have taken them for granted since. We can no longer take anything we need for granted.
It was easier the last 8 years and I have gotten complacent. I can’t afford to be complacent any more. My family’s well being is at stake now. I will be sitting down with a list of those things that are important to me and sorting them into donate, volunteer, or bother my elected officials. I vow to up my game.
How will you try to up your game? Maybe we can help each other figure it out! Big or small, all ideas welcome.
