We are about to enter a political era in which justice will find little quarter. Laws will be written by outlaws in an effort to blow things back to the universe of white male power brokerage. This is unmistakably what will be put on the table. I will not take a seat.
Let’s stand up on day one for the diversity that is the strength of the nation and attend the WOMEN'S MARCH LOS ANGELES in force. (Here's the FB page.) The March is for one and all who intend to resist the fascist push.
From the Mission Statement:
In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
I appreciate the optics of a national show of force. It is the first of many that I hope we are all prepared to participate in.
For those of us who are old enough to recall difficult times with seemingly intractable circumstance to push against, there is a chill in our spines. We know what’s coming and it is likely the worst scenario any of us will experience, worse than all that has come before in our lifetimes. We need to accept that reality and steel ourselves for the absolutely necessary civil protest to come. It is nearly the only initial weapon when it will be next to impossible to redirect legislative horror through conventional processes. It will be a time when it is requisite for any and all who don’t fall in to the supremacists pooper scooper to demand our rights because they will not be offered. Those of us who enjoy white privilege but don’t subscribe to the injustice that affords it, will be joining the cadres of those already oppressed by virtue of skin color alone, sexual orientation, ethnic, or religious background. If we are not on board with the crooked way, we will be pounded. Count on it.
So, let us stand up on Day One!
The March occurs on January 21st at Pershing Square and the March will be to City Hall a few blocks away. The seminal DKLA group involved here will meet at Union Station via public transportation (if you can swing it — it’s L.A. and I know how inadequate our public transport is. If coming by car however, be aware that parking will be a challenge anywhere near the park and you already know how pricey the lots [which will also be jammed] are). We have not yet determined a meet time — the March is from 9 to 4 and we will try to divine particulars since I doubt that many will want to camp out for the day, though more power to you, if you do! I am nearly certain that the actual hoof off to City Hall occurs around 10, so we will likely be rounding up about 9:30 a.m. to roll the one or two Metro stops to the park. We will keep you posted but I wanted to give you a shout-out now and ask you to come along. Let’s do this! Tell us if you’re coming along in the comment thread.
