The US Senate used to call itself The World’s Greatest Deliberative Body. As I remember, customs of Senatorial courtesy used to mean any Senator could delay some actions for a week with a “hold” just so he and his staff wouldn’t have to rearrange their schedules to have ample time to study the matter.
That careful deliberation and customary courtesy seems gone, at least when it comes to looking at a health care bill that would have strong effects on one seventh of the US economy. Even if the bill were perfect, there should be time for Senators and the public to debated it. From all reports, the bill is very far from perfect.
One small benefit from the Senate’s loss of respect and dignity is that it is now a good source of humor. I suggest you read this short article in The Onion: http://www.theonion.com/infographic/top-benefits-going-paperless-56298?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=feeds I laughed out loud at the picture.
I urge you to avoid rushing through any health care bill that would replace “Obamacare” with something worse.
