This a short diary to introduce a link to a very long, and inexpressibly worthwhile, text that is both fitting and proper for our time. Max Weber’s “Politics as a Vocation” builds slowly, even tediously, but covers much intellectual territory that I see completely missing in the analyses of our current political predicament. It is a master class for those interested in politics itself, its history, its evolution, its meaning, and its consequences. I’ll not belabor the point; you, the reader, will either ignore, attempt, or complete this challenge. For the impatient amongst you, a decent synopsis is provided here. Regardless, this essay, presented at the University of Munich in January 1919, after Germany had been defeated in World War I, is valuable beyond measure. Read it, think about it, and be illuminated. Solidarity forever y’all.
