If you thought the upcoming midterm was going to be a cakewalk, think again. Our pussy-grabbing, internationally-despised, trusted-less-than-Putin, treasonous President still gets 87% approval from Republicans on his Nazis-are-nice-people response to Charlottesville. That’s right, 87%.
GOP voters don’t care about Trump’s racism, or his misogyny, or his xenophobia, or his homophobia, or his total lack of character and ethics. They will still vote with discipline for Trump and every other GOP candidate in every federal, state and local election — including the upcoming mid-term. That’s how they’ve accumulated nearly unlimited power over the past 30 years. It works. It works beautifully. It’s a true political movement. Until we learn the same, we will be powerless.
Elections have consequences. We do not have the luxury to sit out an election, or lodge some asinine protest vote. We don't have that luxury because we live in a two-party system and the other side votes with discipline in every federal, state and local election.
So, bask in the glory of a silent majority all you want. Write ad infinitum on this site and in other progressive outlets establishing to a metaphysical certainty that Trump is a tremendously flawed and horrible human being. In terms of real consequences for real people, it doesn't mean shit! The horrible, nightmarish reality we are now experiencing will continue to unfold and worsen unless and until we finally come together as a true political movement and vote with discipline in every federal, state and local election.
The single greatest issue facing the world —and not just this great Nation — is the fact that progressives in the U.S. are not disciplined voters and thereby cede power to the unhinged GOP. It is the issue that supersedes all issues.
