Chris Cillizza at CNN has written an article about how Lindsay Graham may have saved Kavanaugh's Confirmation. What was supposed to look like a spontaneous, angry, heartfelt speech to Republicans was clearly written and planned in advance.
Watch the video carefully. At about 1:16, he says “This is the most unethical...”. <Then he looks at his notes > “...sham...” <looks at his notes again> “...since I’ve been in politics.”
If you were really speaking from the heart, would you look at your notes there of all places? It’s the most climactic part of the speech. Can you imagine Martin Luther King: “I have a ...“ <looks at his notes> “...dream!”. The word “sham” was carefully chosen in advance. The whole speech was theater.
The media bought it hook, line and sinker. His little outburst made the front page of most coverage. A typical news summary covered part of Dr. Ford’s opening statement, her hippocampus remark, then some of Brett Cavanaugh’s speech and then Lindsay Graham’s little outburst. He drowned out a whole lot of good questions from the Democrats. And it’s all bullsh*t.
