Maybe I just missed it but don’t see a diary covering the news that Bernie Sanders has retracted his endorsement of a$$hole extraordinaire Cenk Uygur, but only after Uygur issued a statement saying he didn’t want endorsements.
Many reasons to despise this guy but lets start with the fact that Cenk Uygur calls his buddies and himself “The Young Turks,” totally ignoring the fact that the original Young Turks are the ones who conducted the mass killing of Armenians during WWI.
He has a long history of misogyny and other equally distasteful behavior.
There was a clear and ugly irony that he decided to run for the seat in CA vacated by Katie Hill after misogynists cyber-bullied her out of the seat.
In addition to the inappropriateness of his trying for that seat, there’s a good Democratic candidate, Christy Smith, who had already announced a run for the seat. Ms Smith is deeply involved in that community, unlike Uygur who doesn’t live there. And from what I’ve read, she has very good views on the key issues.
Here’s info on Uygur, for those who claim there’s nothing bad about him:
Lots more tweets from @m_mendozaferrer with info on Uygur’s despicable statements and behavior. You don’t have to accept her opinion, just listen to the posted videos to form your own.
And there’s the article in Jezebel (diary photo is from that article) that explains a great deal about Uygur’s problems.
Why Sanders (and Nina Turner and Ro Khanna) endorsed him is beyond me seeing he was thrown out of a major progressive Democratic organization for his actions:
The Justice Democrats ousted Cenk Uygur, one of its founding board members and a creator of progressive online network The Young Turks, following the Thursday revelation that Uygur had authored sexist blogposts in the early 2000s.
Of course his sexist behavior went on for many years after those “early 2000s” posts as everyone can see in the tweets I posted (and plenty more instances posted on Twitter).
I haven’t seen any evidence of the other endorsers pulling their endorsements. I’d be surprised if they don’t.

So now Uygur is whining that it’s a conspiracy against him based on “a couple of out of context smears.” Given how easy it is to come up with a whole lot more than “a couple” of times he did/said things that were sexist, that he allowed racism and antisemitism on his show, this is no defense at all.
