Albert Finney, the veteran British actor who starred in films such as Scrooge, Erin Brockovich and Skyfall has passed away. Finney got his start in movies working with Laurence Olivier in 1960’s “”The Entertainer’, and broke into stardom in “ Tom Jones” in 1963, where he got his first of 5 Oscar nominations. I know him best for his work on Scrooge which was a musical take on Dicken’s immortal classic, and it holds up to repeated viewing. Finney played Hercule Poirot in 1974’;s Murder on the Orient Express, predating David Suchet’s iconic work as the character by about 15 years. He received the last of his 5 Oscar nominations for Erin Brockovich in 2001. In later years he appeared as master thief Gaspard Lemarc in Oceans 12 and appeared in two Bourne films as Dr Albert Hirsch, who brought Bourne into the dangerous world of the CIA. Finney’s last film role was as the groundskeeper Kincaide in Skyfall, a role originally meant for Sean Connery.
