RULES OF PROCEDURE AND PRACTICE IN THE SENATE WHEN SITTING ON IMPEACHMENT TRIALS (from 1986)
The Presiding Officer shall have power to make and issue, by himself or by the Secretary of the Senate, all orders, mandates, writs, and precepts authorized by these rules or by the Senate, and to make and enforce such other regulations and orders in the premises as the Senate may authorize or provide. (There is more to these rules, of course, but not a lot of precedent)
The absolute IRONY of the formal start of the impeachment trial of the most corrupt President in US history being coincident with the 10th anniversary of the worst Supreme Court decision, Citizens United v. FEC, cannot be overstated.
My wish is that the Chief Justice takes a forceful role as
Presiding Officer, and confronts the subversive efforts of
Moscow/Midnight Mitch McConnell
and his band of Putin-Publican puppets, to ensure that a
fair trial results for the American people. The Chief
Justice should confront any efforts to hide evidence from
additional witnesses and/or documentation.
