Just a short open ‘To whom it may concern’ diary with an unlikely wish that it might be seen by some staffer in DC or someone else who cares whom might make note of this to someone that matters.
I received a survey from the DSCC in the mail. I realize that we need to win the senate back very much and was glad to fill it out. I was happy to take their survey but particularly because they have a section where I was invited to share additional comments. It has a detachable top half to the survey itself with a little Ditch Mitch card suitable for carrying around in my wallet so that I guess that that I could say I’m a card carrying member. Cute. I was in a hurry but filled out the comments section with the things I really wanted to see our senate members accomplish which would be valuable in my opinion along with my survey choices. And so I filled that in, wrote up a check and indicated how much I would send on the survey. Then getting ready to mail it I began to, as the instructions told me, detach the top section with my Ditch Mitch card and then I realized… the additional thoughts they wanted me to “share” with them? That was on the part they wanted me to detach. Not even on the back of the card section. Just, write it down and throw it away I guess.
So I voided the check, and attached the detachable part with my thoughts anyway and a mention of why i cancelled my check as now I had indicated on the survey form having crossed out the amount I would have given. Maybe they’ll still count my data they requested. I have no hope that they’ll take any additional advice that I really, really wanted to suggest to them. Hoping that thousands and thousands of these by others would also be logged and considered. A lot more data for them, right?
But instead here was this insulting affront to ask for information and then give me instructions not to let them know. I didn’t have room enough also to tell them that this strikes me as a symptom of our problems that have gone on now for decades and why we can’t hold the senate. I’m sure they’ll ignore my pleas for us to return to being a New Deal and Great Society party again. One that stands up for workers of all kind in every way possible and for continuing the social justice breakthroughs we started making 50 years ago. Instead I donated to a couple of candidates whom i hope will help flip the senate. In more ways than one.
But nothing to that organization. Again. As usual, if we win it’s not that they do anything significant for the American people that stands the test of time. Because they really haven't done more than perhaps a couple, three, four truly significant things we expect to last generations in a long, long time. If we win in 2020 it’s just because this time around they may be more palatable for the general public. Until 2022. Or 2024. Because the days when Democrats simply get voted back into office election after election after election, just as a matter of course, are apparently going to remain as dead as hopes of again seeing attempts at building and sustaining New Deals and Great Societies.
It's said that Republicans fear their base while Democrats despise theirs. I almost believe it seeing thoughtlessness like this.
