Some time ago — probably as much as a year, back in the Before Times — a diary here described some small charities that were highly effective, where your contribution would really make a difference. I believe there was also a link to an aggregation website that suggested charities fitting that description. Might have included one that simply redirected contributions to families that needed cash, to do with it what they would.
I can’t find that diary — no “search” I have tried has come up with it - and I have no idea who wrote it. I should have bookmarked it, but evidently failed to do so.
Of course, that diary is not the only place such information can be found. I expect quite a few people here know of excellent, highly effective organizations where a donation would make a big difference. What can you recommend?
My brother and I don’t need any “things” (actually, both of us need a lot fewer things), so we’ve turned to charitable donations as a way to acknowledge our Christmas traditions. For awhile, his church did some research and found excellent recommended charities, but that program ended with the departure of the person running it - the vulnerability of the single-volunteer effort. My brother tended toward programs benefitting women and girls, especially those affected by war (DR Congo, for example), but those are not the only things of interest.
I’d love to hear your suggestions and knowledgeable endorsements.
Or maybe you know where to find that lost diary?
