It’s election day. The day so many of us have been yearning for, fighting for, is here. Today we take back our country and save our democracy.
I’ve always loved Election Day. I've already voted but have volunteered to stand outside in the cold to cheer on voters showing up at one of our town's polling places.
I'll be dressed in layers of white in honor of our suffragette foremothers and all those who fought for the essential right to vote upon which our democracy is founded. And if I can find them, I’ll be wearing pearls in honor of our wondrous RBG.
Along with other volunteers, I’ll be waving signs for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Sara Gideon for the Senate, and Kyle Bailey, our Democratic candidate for the State Legislature.
We’ve all been given phone numbers to call in case of intimidation or god forbid violence.
I don't intimidate easily but these days one has to be prepared.
A friend doesn't want me out and about. She's worried I might be targeted because of the Biden/Harris bumper sticker on my car.
There is only one side doing voter suppression and intimidation.
One.
And that says everything.
I began this Election Day morning feeling hopeful and excited for the first time in what feels like forever.
Joe and Kamala won every vote in Dixville Notch! Al Giordano, Cooks Report, and others are projecting a Biden win, taking back the Senate, and gains in the House.
But now those feelings are mixed with grief and rage because I was reminded of what we must never forget.
There should be grief and rage mixed with hope and determination. We have endured far too much, lost far too much, to ever back down — no matter how long it takes.
We're going to take our country back, safe guard our vote, and make Election Day something to love again.
We’re going to take back our country in honor of all we have lost, in honor of those who are grieving, and those who fight on.
Everything we love is on the ballot.
For my son and his health care co-workers across the country, for all of us — GOTV!
I’ll be cheering all of you on.
Let’s get it done.
