Our number one aim is to defeat Trump in November. Resoundingly. I want Trump to get destroyed in the popular vote and to get utterly annihilated in the electoral college. I will do what is necessary to accomplish this goal. I hope I have made these goals crystal clear to the reader. Vote Blue no matter who is a given for me.
Can we please agree on a few things so that we can be more unified for November? The reason I say this is because our side is like herding cats. Everyone has their own unique opinion, molded by their personal experience and unique identity, while the opposition is homogeneous and indistinguishable. That is their strength this election cycle and we need to make sure it’s not our weakness. I’ve been hearing some really, truly bad arguments in the comments section and I want to try to clear the lane before November.
#1. The Republicans will use the socialism card against Bernie Sanders.
We make the mistake of thinking that when Republicans attack us, it must be because of something we did or some characteristic we have. I think it’s clear: Republicans will lie through their teeth. We need to remember, Republicans are capable of the most egregious lies that have no basis in reality and merely serve as a vehicle for them to get what they want. They have no morality. Glenn Beck is a millionaire because he scare mongered Woodrow Wilson. He never paid for any of his lies. Saying that candidate X can’t win because he will be called a socialist is clap trap. All of us will be called socialists.
#2. Trump is unbeatable.
I’m barely convinced Trump really won the election last time around. When it came time to recount votes, the Clinton campaign didn’t even fight. Trump won with a small margin of voters in a few battleground states. Many people have turned against him in that span of time. The House is a good indicator. The people who put Dems in the House, many of them will back Trump’s opponent come November. We need to stop falling for right wing propaganda, acting like we’re on our back foot.
#3 Too large of a field will mean we’re not unified
The Republicans had a large field the last time. They shot each other in a circular firing squad. Hell, Ted Cruz was accused of being related to someone that murdered JFK. It was bad. But guess what? The Republicans coalesced around their candidate. The Never Trumpers were a negligible part of the party to begin with. They were deluded as to how fascist the party actually was. This time around, most people will find a way to like the main candidate, even if it wasn’t their initial pick. We’re MUCH better at working in a group than Republicans when push comes to shove. 90% of Bernie voters went for Clinton after all.
Keep calm, and defeat the Republicans in November.
