We’ve known for some time that the ones wailing “Stop the Steal!” are the ones actually trying to steal this election. But hearing Trump attempt to shake down Brad Raffensperger put it beyond any doubt.
You would have thought that hearing hard proof that Trump himself was trying to steal a state would make the Trump diehards back down from beclowning themselves and objecting to the Electoral College count. Far from it. At least two Repubs vowed to object AFTER the tape came out.
First up, Elise Stefanik of NY-21.
Stefanik says she is only upholding her oath. Um, Elise? You’re trampling on it. Especially since you made this statement 20 hours after The Washington Post revealed that Trump was trying to browbeat Raffensperger into trying to “find” enough votes to overcome Biden’s lead in Georgia.
Then came Richard Hudson in NC-08.
In a statement Sunday, Hudson said “millions of people do not trust the outcome of this presidential election because there is incontrovertible evidence of voter irregularity — if not outright fraud — in multiple states.”
He did not provide details. Trump, before and after Election Day, has repeated false claims that the election was fraudulent and rigged to his more than 80 million Twitter followers.
Said statement was released just before 4 Eastern, per this tweet from Hudson’s official House account.
It’s bad enough that Stefanik and Hudson are effectively making themselves accessories to a coup attempt. But to do so AFTER the nation heard incontrovertible proof that Trump is the one pulling “the steal” is nothing short of disgraceful. As far as I’m concerned, Stefanik and Hudson ought to do us all a favor and resign.
