Dt fresh off of his 2nd loss of AZ needed some love so he demanded a recount of the Texas 2020 vote that dt won by 5 points around 632,000 votes out of 11.14 million cast, so within hours our 1st tier sycophant governor ordered it up for him.
It is totally unclear what form the "forensic" recount will entail and whether we have ninjas in our future but I doubt we will.
The Secretary of State in Texas is an appointed position and we do not have a state Senate confirmed person in that role as of right now. In other words we have an acting acolyte of Abbott.
They have chosen to recount 4 counties claiming they are picking 2 of the largest Republican counties and 2 of the largest Democratic counties. The funny part is that dt lost one of the 2 largest Republican counties Tarrant county which contains Fort Worth and only won the other by 21,000 votes.
To the Tape
Houston Harris County
68% of Harris county turned out and dt lost by about 218,000 votes 42% to 55% or minus 13 points. Just for fun Cornyn lost by 8 points.
Dallas Dallas County
65% of Dallas county turned out to vote and dt lost by around 297,000 votes 33% to 65% minus 32 points. Cornyn lost by 25 points.
Fort Worth Tarrant County
69% of Tarrant county turned out to vote and dt lost by around 1,826 votes 49.09% to 49.31% minus .22 points. Cornyn won by 4.91 points.
Suburban Dallas Collin County
76% of Collin county turned out to vote and dt won by around 21,000 votes 51% to 47% plus 4 points. Cornyn won by 11 points.
To be clear dt did not lead the Republican ticket in Texas, Cornyn did by 72,636 votes.
Top 10 Counties
Of the top 10 Texas counties by population only 2, Collin (#6) and Denton (#7) were won by dt. Both of those counties reduced their margins by 13% although dt won Denton by 8 points.
The #4 county San Antonio Bexar (pronounced bear) Biden won by 17.8 points and #5 Austin Travis county Biden won by 45.2 points. #8 Rio Grande Valley Hidalgo county Biden won by 17 points, suburban Houston Fort Bend county Biden won by 10 and El Paso county Biden won by 36 points.
Voting Regulations
Mail in voting is restricted basically to two groups of people those over 65 and those that will be absent from their home county on every day of early voting and on election day (basically most military personnel). About 7% of the vote was cast by mail in 2020.
While Texas is not a high voting state the vast majority of votes cast are done during early voting. In 2020 approximately 87% of the vote was cast early.
While I haven't gone back to see what the early vote cast in Houston Harris county was in 2016 I would assume that it increased because of the convenience such as 24 hour voting and drive through voting as well as the problems raised by the pandemic.
Of course this is why our new statute has gone after Harris county and is attempting further suppression of the vote.
If Texas was a high voting state we would be at least a purple state and most likely a blue state.
For the time being dt needs an ego boost having lost the ninja recount of Arizona and then last night promoting the results not understanding they found dt had lost by more than the original tabulation.
What is a loser to do? Well if you are dt call for a recount of a state that Republicans won in 2008 by 12, 2012 by 16 and he won in 2016 by 9 but in 2020 dt won by only 5 and Cornyn had 76,000 more votes than dt did.
Let's hope Abbott and dt drive Texans to wake up, register to vote and then GOTV in 2022.
By the way dt still lost the popular vote for the 2nd time, in 2020 by over 7 million votes.
