We are at a disgraceful time in our nation's media history. Here is the second paragraph of this entry at CNN marked as "Analysis"
"Hopes that Democrats could use the Supreme Court’s overturning of the right to an abortion and a flurry of legislative wins to stave off the classic midterm election rout of a party in power are now a memory."
This is masquerading as a news story. The lede "News" story on CNN . Flagged as "Analysis" which is distinctly a different flag than "Opinion" which they use to flag other content. In other words, they are putting this forward as something opposed to Opinion. Although it's a bit unclear what that difference is, I feel like "Analysis" intentionaly adds a lens of "looked at through data". For what it's worth the "opinion" piece a few links down is "Opinion: We're in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous moment".
I am providing this link to source the piece but there is nothing in it worth reading. The sensationalist headline and the quote above are all you need. www.cnn.com/…
Spoiler alert: There isn't a visible data point in the "Analysis" aside from un sourced references to "polling data"
Meanwhile there isnt a single story anywhere that I can find in the CNN news section or the politics section reporting on the facts on the ground of the unprecedented turnout being seen in early voting.
Nothing.
And this adds to the danger that they are contributing to. In the event of a great success on the Democratic part, the authoritarians can point and say "There was fraud, even the 'MSM' knew that we were going to win"
And at the core of it, it doesn't matter that this wild flung set of words string together are referencing my political party of choice.
This is a disgrace of a headline and a further disgrace of an "analysis" for a "news" organization on the homepage of a "News" site. An analysis that ignores an ocean of both data and evidencial happenings at polling places is anything but analysis.
And as it seems with everything now - like the idea of "what would have been reported if there were an assassination attempt on a Republican Senator" which of course we know, this is the same. Nothing like this is published by CNN about the Republicans ever. They would never publish anything like this about the Republican mafia - but, God forbid they did, I would call it as much of an affront to "news" or "journalism" as this piece (I am leaving out the 'of ______' it deserves) .
But can you imagine it? Of course not. Leading up to 2020 it was clearly a disaster for Trump. I knew this as others should have based on basic math. It should have been 100% clear to anyone with eyes that he was going to get skewered. Republican after Republican fell off the Trump Train. Basic, simple math when you lose the fraction of your party that he lost you can't win.
Never once was there a headline "Donald Trump about to get destroyed in blowout election."
Nor should there have been on a news site. No "Analysis" piece should have born that headline (which never happened) but that is actually proper, just for the wrong reasons.
And meanwhile the evidence on the ground that we are seeing everywhere flies in the face of the pretext for this trashy piece of whatever this disgrace of a published piece at the top of their home page.
I will say this.
We have a crisis.
Fox "News" is a literal Russian modeled Propaganda machine with fully fabricated and/or mainly fabricated content that is objectively not news and is objectively built to create a monolithic army of right wing authoritarian support.
And the "center" media is now..... I don't even know what. Complicit? Involved? Part of it?
When does it become clear that like Russia where Ría news, Rossiya and Channel one are actually all the same but just a little different?
Because it sure appears that this is where we are headed and it doesn't seem like anyone in charge is fighting it.
