INTRODUCTION
I thought it would be interesting to create a word search puzzle. My idea was to use words and phrases that Fox News executives and on-air personalities used to describe Trump, Trump’s lawyers, and their audience. I have done just that.
It is near the bottom of this post.
But before I started, I wanted to learn more about Word Search puzzles, their history, and how they can be gratifying, useful, and entertaining. I knew that my neighbor was an avid reader/user of these books, so I asked him.
INTERVIEW WITH MY NEIGHBOR, A RETIRED AIR FORCE CAPTAIN
Q. When did you start doing Word Search puzzles?
A. Probably 20 years ago.
Q. How often do you do Word Search puzzles?
A. All day, all night.
Q. Can you guess how many puzzles you have completed?
A. One every two days.
Q. Do you buy books that have lots of puzzles in them?
A. Yes.
Q. Where do you find these books?
A. Food Lion. Dollar General has them too.
Q. How often do you buy those books?
A. Whenever they have new ones available.
Q. Is there a publisher that you like best?
A. Yes. PennyPress.
Q, Why do you like them best?
A. They got what I want. The others, some are too simple, and some are a pain in the ass.
Q. Do you like the Word Search puzzles that include word lists, or ones that do not have a word list?
A. Both.
Q. Are there some puzzles that you don’t like? That you won’t do?
A. Numbers and some are like license plates. Heads and Tails. Those puzzles require you to find the start of the word in one place in the puzzle, and the ending of the word in another place in the puzzle.
Q. Do you feel that Word Search puzzles help keep your mind active?
A. Yes.
Q. Do you ever time yourself to see how quickly you can solve a puzzle?
A. No.
A LITTLE HISTORY
To my surprise, word search puzzles seem to be a rather modern invention. Wikipedia indicates that they may have been printed for the first time in America in 1968, although there might have been a Spanish version that pre-dated that.
Norman E. Gibat is said to have published the first word search in the Selenby Digest on March 1, 1968, in Norman, Oklahoma. The puzzles were printed in free-to-take wanted ads booklets that were offered by Safeway grocery stores.
Local school teachers wanted reprints of the puzzles to use in their classes, and soon the brain teasers became a hit and were syndicated. Then, of course, Facebook stole the idea in 2013 with their “Letters of Gold” games.
There is now a site online where you can play thousands of different puzzles for free. I’m going to tell my friend the Captain about this. I think the most interesting thing I learned about the puzzles came from him: “They keep me thinking. Sometimes I get pissed off and set-em down for awhile.”
MY STAB AT A WORD SEARCH PUZZLE
Search for the words and phrases that Fox News executives and propagandists like Rupert Murdoch, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson use to describe their audience, alleged felon Donald Trump and his lawyers. The World Key is in the following graphic.
This is the WORD KEY. Search for these words and phrases used by Fox News Executives and on-air personalities to describe their audience, Trump, and his lawyers. Be sure to look for the ***BONUS SENTENCE***
This is the Answer Key to your Fox News Word Search!
Oh my, didn’t we have a good time! I hope you got them all right. If you didn’t, try using the Answer key because that will make the exercise easier.
The Bonus Sentence is one that we all know is true: “Watching Fox News is a Racist Act.” Duh, right? And yet they still show Fox News at Army posts, Naval stations and Air Force bases. What could possibly go wrong? I hope you had fun, my friends!
