We have seen this in Washington DC with the reactionaries in House stopping everything. Not to be outdone, the “Freedom” Caucus in the Missouri Senate has been holding up the Republican governor’s appointments, so today the Republican leader in the Senate stripped them of their committee chairman ship. The Republicans have a supermajority in the Missouri Senate.
Its behind a paywall, but here is the Kansas City Star’s article: ‘Swamp creatures.’ Top MO Senate Republican strips hard-right senator hard-right senators of leadership posts.
The Republican leader of the Missouri Senate:
“A chamber designed to be occupied with civil, principled statesmen and women has been overtaken by a small group of swamp creatures who, all too often, remind me more of my children than my colleagues.”
The assistant leader
“They have used the floor of the Senate for their own personal interest, make political speeches and obstructed the process in which legislation and issues are debated and passed.”
One of the people removed from his chairmanship of the budget committee is also running for Secretary of State. He said:
Shortly after Rowden’s announcement, senators returned to the Senate floor and Freedom Caucus members began fighting with Rowden. In one exchange, Hoskins accused Rowden of attempting to “stack the deck” and silence him as his opponent in the race for secretary of state.
Hoskins compared what has happened “to criminal cases against former President Donald Trump.” I was a constituent of Hoskins and he deserves everything he is getting.
It looks like the Republican leader in the Missouri Senate learned something from the Bill-Chiefs game — “wide right” is always a loser.
