This weekend my sister and I are off to Nashville to see the Isles play the Predators on Saturday night along with other members of the New York Islanders Booster Club. This is first non-road trip we will apart of as all of our trips with the Booster Club have been by bus. Because it is MLK, Jr. weekend, my sister and I decided to spend leave a day early and then fly back on Monday to take in some other fun things in Nashville.
For me, a trip to Nashville has to include going to the Grand Ole Opry. This time will be extra special as the Opry is being performed at the Ryman Auditorium, the Mother Church of Country Music. This will be my first visit to the Ryman, so seeing the Opry there will be extra special. Current scheduled performers are Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Brothers Osbourne, Lucinda Williams, among others. Of course, there is always a chance someone will be in town and decide to make appearance of the Opry stage. That would be cool.
Nashville is the home of the Goo Goo Cluster, something we sell in our store. Their main retail location holds classes where you can learn to make various chocolate including their famous Goo Goo. They have a few different classes, not all of which are regularly scheduled, but you can contact them to request a specific class. I did and gave them a couple of dates and times I would be available. They got back to me very quickly to let me know they scheduled the class I requested at one of my preferred times. We are really excited to get some chocolate making tips from a master.
While we were at the Iowa State Fair, we met a woman who lived in Nashville and works at one of the many honky-tonks there. We told we would be in Nashville in January. She gave us the name of the bar where she works as well as the name of the restaurant with best fried baloney. While we wrote down the days of the she works, all of us failed to write her name down. We will head to her bar and hopefully she will remember us. If not, I am sure the atmosphere will be fun anyway.
The last time I was in Nashville (during the solar eclipse), my mom and met up with a cousin of ours whom I had never met. She offered to have us stay with her the next time we would be in Nashville. We called her to ask about staying this with her this weekend. She gladly said she would love to have us, so we will be staying there. It will be ice to get to spend time with a relative I have only met one and my sister hasn’t met yet. I am sure I will get to hear some stories about my extended family.
Our late flight back means I won’t be able to watch the Iowa Caucuses returns live. Enjoy them and I will see you next week.
