Mrs bunny keeps a daily diary in a journaling app called “Day One” and sent me what I wrote 3 years ago to an English friend:
Well, so far the trial has been very interesting to watch. The Trumpian lawyers are shoveling manure as fast as they can in the hopes the flurry of poop will disguise their lack of coherency. Trump would be as well represented by cardboard cutouts with random word generators. The House “managers” are doing a stunning presentation of their case. The Republican Senators are ignoring it as hard as they can to kowtow to Trump and his mobs. There is little or no hope that they will vote to convict. The country is watching the presentation and is drawing their own conclusions. The conclusions will be molded by whatever media they are watching the presentation of evidence on. I understand that FOX did not show the long video that tracked the whole process of incitement and pointing the mob at its target and then the resulting mayhem while noting that the President watched it all on TV and was enjoying the action rather than trying to get help to the Capitol Police who were fighting for their lives, or telling the mob he had sent to stand down and leave.
In ordinary prosecutions, this would be enough to prove culpability. This has had little to no effect upon the intransigence of the Republicans. I suppose that they will also face censure and/or expulsion for their own roles in spreading and supporting the “big lie” of stolen elections that they are conscientiously ignoring. [Eventually one can hope]
I wonder if this is how M. Robespierre got his power (before he too met la guillotine?)
And so we continue watching the kabuki dance/play in the legal system, episode #1095. The trials are not only of the OrangeJulius Caesar, but the major media coverage is all about verbally prosecuting witnesses, prosecutors, judges, court staff, and any others who have “slighted” the defendant rather than the defendant himself. Such is the media landscape in our “best of all possible worlds.” No uproar over ceding Europe to Pootie Poot starting with Ukraine, but lots of digital ink spilled over totally insignificant sexual follies. Climate disasters are seemingly not worth a mention past the initial report, like a traffic accident.
Lucky for me I won’t be around for the Apocalypse. The collapse of the Gulf Stream is long enough.
