Abortion is in the Constitution
It seems that the French are, again, pointing the way for democracies by inserting the right to abortion care into their Constitution. This, by the way, in a country that is predominantly Catholic. Perhaps it is the history of the country in regards to religion that strengthens the urge to lean toward freedom of choice for the individual rather than blind obedience to a religious doctrine.
During their Revolution, the revolutionaries broke free from the influence of the Church and broke their power and influence over sectarian matters. Somewhat like Henry VIII did in England, they refuted the control over their lives, social station, and behavior, that the Church controlled up to that point as well as the accumulated wealth reserved for only ecclesiastical users.
I’m beginning to wonder if a similar defrocking of the megachurches and televangelicals might not be in order. It seems that the attraction of “fire and brimstone” rants from the pulpit or stage is becoming less and less palatable and believable by the “flock.”
