Okay I owe some people apologies, it seems that you can get results of early voting in VA that I did not realize.
This is being done by the Virginia Public Access Project. It was started to track campaign contributions and created by the largest papers in the Commonwealth. It also have results going back to 1996 but most of those were using the absentee ballot system and not early voting as we have now.
As of 10/30 around 308,000 Virginians have cast an early ballot. About 442,000 have been requested so about 134,000 are still out there. I am assuming those are the ones who requested a ballot to be mailed to them which is an option still, but the ballot has not been turned in.
Virginia doesn’t have no excuse early voting per se, but the reasons that would allow you to vote early are very flexible. I was able to use the reason of working out of county on Election Day which for most people if not almost all in Northern Virginia would apply. If you look at the listings it would be 1C
If you go on to the site you can check on early voting results not only by locality but you can combine localities to get a more detailed number. You can also see what reasons were given to vote early. As of now in what I would include as Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, Prince William Counties along with the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, Alexandria, Manassas and Manassas Park) comes to about 146,000.
You do have to be careful as you read polls to make conclusions about this number in regards to votes. The one from Washington Post released today(www.washingtonpost.com/...) has the results separated by DC suburbs and Northern VA Exurbs. It seems that DC Suburbs are defined as Fairfax, Arlington counties along with the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, and Alexandria while Northern Exurbs I assume must be Loudoun and Prince William counties and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Other polls have not indicated a distinction.
As of now the VPAP site puts the number of ballots in the DC surburb area at 105,000 returned. If you take the current poll from the Post of 65% to 22% for Hillary in the DC suburbs she should have a vote lead of about 45000 (estimated). In the Northern Exurbs its about 41,000 returned and estimate out the difference using the 47% to 40% in the Post poll, Clinton has about a 3000 vote lead. Put it all together and she has an estimated lead of about 48000 based on early voting. Obama won Virginia in2012 thanks mostly to about a 195,000 vote difference in the total area of Northern VA (DC and Exurbs).
So get out and vote Virginia you have till 5PM today to request a ballot to be mailed to you. Your local Registrar must receive the request by 5PM. You have till this Saturday November 5 at 5PM, to go and vote in person absentee.
If you want to play with the site and see for yourself here it is. www.vpap.org/...
